Each
community has identified access to safe water and
sanitation as a priority community need.
They will then work with Concern Universal Mozambique, their local Farmers Union & the
Christian Council Of Mozambique to identify related issues, survey the water
quality/quantity and develop an implementation strategy.
Once the water quality has been approved
by the Ministry of Water, CU Mozambique allow local
construction companies to tender for the job (indirectly
increasing employment in the area).
CU Mozambique and their partners are experienced
in the implementation of approved technology for
the rehabilitation and construction of water points – in
this instance, Shallow Wells & Ventilated Improved
Pit Latrines (VIP Latrines).
CU Mozambique and partners then work
with each communities Water Committee on education
programs that cover both technical and water management
issues such as maintenance and health (hygiene, sanitation
gender & HIV Aids).
The project cycle is approximately
12 months, including follow up and assessment which
is critical.
This capacity building of community based organisations
(CBO's) leads to long term sustainability of resources
and mitigating initiatives (literacy programs, health
clinics etc). It is also compliments District & Provincial
policies, as well as the National AIDS Council Strategy. |
